Based in Dublin, Ireland, Gary Quinn is a writer, editor and writing coach. He worked as a sub-editor and commissioning editor with the Irish Times for more than 15 years where his work with brand stories was awarded two Global Media Awards from the International News Media Association in 2016 (The Ice Swimmer) and 2017 (The Story of Home). He won national awards for his weekly column Barfly, telling stories from great Irish bars, as well as for his work charting the Kenco-sponsored project, Coffee Vs Gangs, over two years in Honduras.
The Sea Road was the name of his first newspaper column, charting great sea kayaking routes around Ireland for The Irish Times.
In 2020, Harper Collins published The Little Book of Irish Whiskey, a travel and whiskey guide, charting the stories behind each of the working whiskey distilleries in Ireland.
He has worked as a consultant new media trainer for organisations such as the BBC World Service Trust, Council of Europe media section and the European Journalism Centre in Ukraine, Serbia, Russia, Croatia, India, Armenia, Georgia and others. He has lectured in sub-editing and new media in Dublin City University and runs online creative writing courses for groups and individuals.
